EDUCATION

The education sector faces some of the most pressing problems in India including inadequate government funding, lack of proper infrastructure and the theoretical system of education, which results in a gap between knowledge gained and actual industry requirements.

More than 90% schools in India fail to meet the minimum infrastructure standards. Also, most students in rural and semi-urban areas do not get the opportunity to study due to lack of proper schools in the vicinity.

The effective use of technological tools will ensure education being successfully provided to students across the country, apart from being a permanent solution for problems related to the lack of proper infrastructure. Students may either opt for distant learning courses or may join live-online tutoring classes according to their convenience.

Automation and technology will help in streamlining the back-end operations such as administrative tasks, attendance management, curriculum updates and so on.

Also with technology, the quality of education will improve in terms of including more live examples and demonstrations for every subject being taught theoretically. Not only will this increase the interest for learning among students, but also it will connect them to real life scenarios, thereby bridging the gap between education received and the industry requirements.

The education industry in India has this perennial issue of lack of teachers, and more so, rightly qualified teachers to impart education to students. Dearth of teachers becomes a matter of grave alarm, considering the ideal requirement of one teacher for every 30 students.Often teachers in small local schools do not even qualify the Teachers Eligibility Test, an important criterion for their recruitment, and still manage to get selected. As a result, it becomes a serious hurdle in offering quality education to students.

The educational institutions should be more vigilant in their recruitment process and only let qualified candidates be a part of their institute. Lead members such as the Principal or the Head of Department impact the culture of any organisation. Their appointment, hence, becomes a critical task and must be done with due diligence and careful consideration.

Whether an institute hires a teacher on a permanent payroll or on contract basis, their policies should be standardised and followed strictly. The rules and regulations related to salaries, remedial classes, annual leaves and other benefits to teachers must be implemented rightly to reduce high teacher turnover.

Recruitment of staff for general administration and supporting activities including lab technicians, librarians etc. should be given equal priority for the smooth functioning of the system.

With the risingglobal stress on specialization, the demand for well-trained teachers has now spread across globe. However, the knack of connecting and interacting with students isgetting increasingly challenging for teachers. With a change in the traditional education system, it is extremely essential that every teacher in an institute is trained on the updates in the industry and is aware of the latest technologies and lifestyle changes.

Amongst the teaching staff, members with high growth potential should be identified and trained under various talent development programs to take up higher responsibilities. The institute must also focus on training their team on developing specialised soft skills, communication skills, team building skills and so on.

As such, it is vital to educate and train teachers in order to help them in imparting knowledgemore effectively.
